Elena feels awful that she showed this Mother's Day, and Francisco says it's time to look into the future, so the family goes off to La Vida Dulce to make chocolates. But when they see the actual portrait, they find that he's not in the portrait at all, which makes Luisa feel like she didn't fulfill her goal as a mother to him. When Elena's scepter shows the part where the family portrait was painted, they find that Esteban wasn't there much to their confusion because they remember him being in the portrait with them. On the balcony, Elena and her grandparents are enjoying the chocolates for Luisa. As the family leaves the garden, Isabel and Flo show up with the Snip-Snap, which has been improved, but the machine cuts down the entire garden. Meanwhile, Elena and her grandparents see the part where Luisa showed Esteban the family's grove of cacao trees, which she planted for special occasions, and she asked her grandson to help plant one for a new special occasion: Esteban coming to live with the family in the palace. Meanwhile, Isabel brings a plant into her workshop to test out her latest invention, the Snip-Snap, which will cut the prettiest flowers and wrap them into paper to make a bouquet, but the machine has kinks, and it tears the plant apart. However, they begin to understand when they see the part where the family gave the children boxes of chocolates to give to their mothers, and Esteban felt left out because he no longer had a mother to celebrate with, to his grandmother's concern. Elena remembers Esteban saying that he felt like he had no place in the family when his betrayal was revealed, which she doesn't understand as she believes the memories show that he was part of the family.

Even Baby Isabel joins in the fun with her first invention: the triple chocolate catapult, which she uses to splatter her big sister, cousin, and grandmother at once. It seems like Luisa is angry with her grandchildren, but she joins them by splattering them with chocolate. During another part of that Mother's Day, after Raul accidentally adds salt instead of sugar to the chocolate, young Esteban tricks his cousin into eating it, and they have a playful chocolate fight until they accidentally hit their grandmother. Meanwhile, Elena and her grandparents are still enjoying Elena's gift. Isabel looks through her workshop with Flo to figure out what gift to make for Luisa, and she decides to invent something to help her grandmother with her gardening. Seeing young Elena and Esteban play peek-a-boo with baby Isabel, Francisco remarks that he forgot Isa was ever that little, and Luisa wonders what's taking her granddaughter so long. Luisa says that this was the year Esteban lost his parents. Little Elena shows up with her cousin, Esteban, which confuses Elena. During that Mother's Day, Isabel was just a baby, and the family was in La Vida Dulce.
Elena uses her Scepter's Truthvision ability to show Luisa her favorite Mother's Day memory. Franciso gives his wife a shiny emerald brooch. Francisco says that he and their granddaughters each got her a gift much to Isabel's horror: She doesn't have a gift because she thought the song was the gift. When they finally find her, they perform the song for her. After accidentally performing it for Armando and Senora Torres by mistake, they decide to make sure it's Luisa first. Elena, Isabel, and Francisco are going around Avalor Palace to perform a song for Luisa for Dia de las Madres.
